Brass Ensemble

The MSU Brass Ensemble is a large scale student chamber group which focuses on the performance of repertoire especially written for this type of group. It is under the joint musical direction of Dr. Michael Huff and Dr. Richard Human. This ensemble rehearses once a week and performs a large amount of music, therefore strong sight-reading abilities and critical listening skills are a must!

Past repertoire and current projects include works such as:

  • Byrd, Earl of Oxford's March
  • Gabrieli, Canzona per sonare No. 2
  • Gabrieli, Canzona septimi toni No. 1
  • Hazell, Brass Cats
  • Husa, Divertimento for Brass & Percussion
  • Nelhybel, Chorale for Brass & Percussion
  • Koetsier, Brass Symphony
  • Purcell (Howarth), Trumpet Tune & Air
  • Seeboth, Suite für sieben Blasinstrumente
  • Susato, Suite of Renaissance Dances

The sound of massed brass with percussion is a powerful and unique performance experience no brass performer should do without!
